our work

Here are a few of the projects we've worked on recently. We could talk all day about how much we love building custom cabinets and furniture, but pictures are worth a thousand words—so we'll let them do the talking.

About Us

At Island Style, we build your dream one detail at a time. To do that we've refined our process so that we deliver a product that's as close to your ideas as possible. Here's how we do it:

We listen to your ideas and we identify the challenges unique to your project.

We find the solution and we put it on paper to confirm the design with you.

As we build your cabinets and furniture, we refuse to compromise on quality. The lumber, hardware, finishes and other materials we use are the best available. Period.

We stand by our process because we know it works. We've built cabinets and furniture for clients from all different backgrounds and with many different needs and situations. But they all have one thing in common: they all want the very best. At Island Style Furniture & Cabinets Inc. we don't know any other way!

Our History

My woodworking career started in California while I was attending high school. A shop teacher offered me a summer job refacing bathrooms and kitchen cabinets. At first it was just a way for me to generate extra spending cash. However, I soon realized that I enjoyed taking raw materials and turning them into a client’s dream-come-true.

Once I graduated high school I was offered an opportunity to work in a full custom production cabinet shop. There I had the opportunity to work under two very talented wood workers. They taught me all about cut listing, material take offs, sequence of events in relation to production and production techniques. I also learned to use my mind and body as a tool in woodworking.

After six years working under my two mentors, one left the company and the other passed away. I was suddenly thrust into the position of foreman along with another co-worker. Together we increased production and quality. Three years into being foreman I felt that there was no more opportunity for advancement. At this point my children were getting old enough to start pre-school. My wife and I made a decision to move back to Hawaii before the kids started school.

Once on Maui I quickly got a job at another cabinet shop and continued learning new skills. I learned a lot about local wood such as Koa, Mango, Ohia, Kamani, Bamboo, etc. I continued to learn and refine my skills. After four years at this shop I decided it was time to take what I had learned and go out on my own.

My wife and I started Island Style Furniture & Cabinets Inc. in 2002. We chose the name “Island Style” because I was born and raised in Hawaii and the majority of customers are looking for the tropical feel in their homes using exotic woods. I enjoy building custom furniture and cabinets for my customers and have been doing it for 20 years. Our cabinets are built to furniture grade with a total attention to detail. Please enjoy looking around the website and contact me if you have any questions. Aloha!
